The Firebird Database Server

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

The Firebird Database Server is the interface between the HearAid program and the database file which stores all the data and should be installed on the network server or, for stand-alone installations, on a stand-alone computer (including notebook computers which are taken to visiting sites).

Network users are strongly advised to use a client/server configuration: client/server is the safest and most efficient method for shared access to the HearAid database over a network.

To achieve this the Firebird database engine must be installed on the server computer. The Firebird database software is available free-of-charge under the Interbase Public Licence agreement and a copy of the Firebird Server can be installed from the customised installer on our web site. Firebird will run as a service by default.
